Sand dunes in Oregon and Washington

When the summer hits in the beautiful Pacific Northwest it’s time to get out and enjoy what this part of the country has to offer. There is so much to do in the mountains, on the rivers, out in the woods or on the coast… wherever you want to go or whatever you want to do, it’s here! Today I want to talk about the sand dunes of Oregon and Washington. Like our friends to the south (so.cal. where sand dunes are plenty), there sand dunes offer a great time! With an ATV there are endless adventures to be had.

My last visit was incredible! Our journey started in Coos Bay where we found awesome sand dunes that were wide open to ATV’ers. The weather was perfect! It was slightly overcast early in the AM, but by midday the skies were clear and the air was crisp. After a day of adventuring through the dunes of Coos Bay, we headed for Winchester Bay. Winchester Bay is a very small and charming town. When you first drive into town there are a few small businesses and several homes, drive one more block and you are at the waterfront. I found the people to be very nice and helpful. Out in the dunes of this area are so many places to adventure. This area has great camp sites, excellent access to dunes, whale watching and much more to see and do.

In a coupe of months there will be DuneFest in Winchester Bay, and if you want to have alot of fun this is the place to be. We will be at the show, so stop and see us gotomycamp and we hope to see you there. This event goes from August 4th thru the 8th. There is also an event called Sand Fest located in Coos bay at the end of June thru july 4th that is filled with all kinds of fun and exciting events! Don’t miss it!

I will cover the Washington coast tomorrow… so stay tuned! Enjoy life, have fun and be safe!

Why Do I Need a GPS?

Gone are the times where a person had to use a paper travel map so as to find out how to get from one place to another. Now there is new technology called GPS systems, or global positioning systems. These units, which have been utilized by the military for a few years have recently become standard with the public. These are electronic gadgets that come in different forms, from handheld models to display models which are mounted and even in-dash in some newer cars.

These devices, which are controlled by satellite, work by punching in a starting address and the ultimate destination address. Once that info is put into the GPS, the GPS will guide the person step-by-step, turn by turn until the particular person has arrived at his or her destination. Some GPS systems will truly talk to you and inform you exactly the place to turn and when, others are simply an interactive map that may show you on a display when and the place to turn, but is not going to give verbal directions. Along with exhibiting or telling the particular person the place to turn, it additionally says where you’re at, at which direction you are presently heading.    These global positioning systems, or GPS, are very useful to drivers since the driver doesn’t need to be hassled with a large map while he or she is attempting to maintain their palms on the steering wheel and their eyes on the road. That is notably true for those drivers which can be driving with out someone else to navigate for them.

These GPS systems are also very useful if a person does become lost. As a result of the system will tell the individual the place they’re at, they might call for help and be able to tell one other particular person their course and exactly where they are.    Not only are GPS systems helpful for drivers, however they’re additionally very useful to anyone that’s unfamiliar with any location that they are at. Take as an example hikers. With hand held GPS systems, they can make the most of their hike and again, if they get rotated, they will find out how to get again on observe if they know which route they need to go in relation to the direction they are presently headed. Golf gps has also become very popular. Many golf courses now make golf gps systems available to golfers unfamiliar with the course. Instead of having to rent a caddy, now they will use a gps caddie.

After all, this new technology may be very handy and can save an individual a number of problem, but it is important to understand methods to use the particular system, and to grasp that not all GPS systems work precisely the same way. Additionally it is necessary to know that with any technology, they might not always work and it is still a good suggestion to have a traditional back up travel map, just in case.    Whether utilizing an digital system reminiscent of a GPS, or using a standard map, it’s a good idea to become conversant in it and familiar with your vacation spot before you truly go away for any trip. Maps, whether conventional or electronic are only as good as the person who is aware of how to use and read them.
